Leash check
Run your hands along the cord and inspect the cuff, swivels, rail saver and connections. Look for cuts, thinning, stiffness or damaged stitching. Replace a questionable leash rather than testing it in the surf.
Fin check
Confirm that each fin is seated correctly and does not move unexpectedly. Inspect leading and trailing edges for damage and use the correct tool for the system.
Fin-box check
Look around the box for cracks, lifting, soft areas or movement. A loose box is a board repair issue, not simply a screw issue, and should be assessed before further use.
Build a routine
A brief check while waxing or packing the board is easier than dealing with failure in the water. Keep spare screws or compatible hardware only where the manufacturer supports replacement.
